I have a 96 cavy 2.2 5 spd almost 101,000 miles i was taking my girlfriend home when i look down and im going 0 mph yes uve guessed it the speedo decided to stop working couple minutes lata the engine light comes on. then the speedo jumps for a second minutes lata and goes back to not working ...shut the car off fueled up checked oil all good engine light still on what happened??

somethin with the VSS perhaps? have it scanned at autozone or somethin..... my dealership even scans codes for free and diagnoses the problem for up to 30 mins for free
Have Autozone load test your battery as well. Happened to me before, but car would not start after it happened.
well i unhooked the battery overnight which cleared the engine light but speedo still doesnt work ...and light is back on i too think it is the vss just hope that the vss isnt a indication of tranny thats going
i want a new car. possibly a grand prix gtp but for now i gotta keep the cavy going

Seriously, take it to Autozone and get the scan tool and scan the car. Then come back here and post the DTC number and I'll look it up for you.
i have the hookups with the local chevy dealership so the part service man said it may be lose wires on the tranny in any event my friend is gonna take my car and leave me his crustang so prolly the vss though thanks ...and we dont have autozones here

well they said the ecu might be full of water or a level 2 wire that goes in that loom under the bumper could be cut and when i opened the hood guess where thw water from my hood bra went hahha we will find out in an hour
