Its not my DRL Relay, left headlight ? - Maintenance and Repair Forum

my service light has been coming on... before it comes on my headlights always flash between the drl's and off about8 times and then the drl's go off. When i put my headlights on only my right headlight comes on, if i switch to high beams, they both come on. I changed the DRL Relay in the fuse box today and i checked the headlight fuse under the hood but the service light is still coming on and only my right headlight comes on with the low beams. Could it be a wiring harness for the left headlight, or maybe just the wiring for the low beams?
It's a burnt out headlight bulb, guaranteed. By the sound of things, your left low beam bulb.
its a 2000, there only one bulb and if it was burnt out my highbeams wouldnt work
Maybe,
I would assume its a double filament bulb of some sort. So one maybe effect the other.
Your taillights are doubles.
You'd have parking lamps but no brake lights.
So change out the bulb, check the fuses, and you should be all set.

I dont know about the 2000+, but I had a similar problem in my 99 and it turns out I had a burnt out diode in the wiring harness. It was in the harness between the two headlights in a black plastic cube and taped in with everything. Opened that up, changed the diode, and bingo...problem solved.
Diode in the wiring harness?
Hmmm,
I thought that cube was just a bolt or something.
WIll have to check that out.

Now, I have to go digging in my old electronics box and change it out.
Been having some headlight issues recently.
Granted, all I've done to get which lights to stay on at which times and the Y2K tails, I probably have some loose connections somewhere.
Thanks for the tip

Replace the left bulb.9007 bulbs are dual filament.
I took off my headlight and checked the filament and thats fine.. i looked at the wiring and didnt notice anything immediately wrong... theres a little black box between the headlihgts that is wired to them. The wiring goes from the left headlamp to the box, to the right headlamp...
Now my left headlamp comes on about 50% of the time, but when it does there is a delay. So the right headlamp comes on and then like 3 seconds later the left one comes on. So now i know its not the DRL relay, and its not the bulb itself. What is that little black box that connects the two headlights?
So basically I already told you what was in that box...
it doesnt look like it can be opened.. it pulls apart from another thing and then it kind of looks like the drl relay from the dash fuse box, unless i just pry the cover off that biosch
hmmm I wonder if that is another part then? On my 99 it has a little clip that I released with a screwdriver and popped it open. inside was all kinds of grease and a diode...
Maybe they made it a sealed unit because they had problems with water and dirt getting in there previously and you have to replace the unit as a whole. So now I am not sure.
Anyone else?
hey DooD
Did you ever get this light thing fixed? I'm having the same similar problem - lights flicker and then no day times .... just driving lights and hi beams. wonder if its the same issue?
Brian
Check also the lights wiring connector. I mentioned it in my post about having only signal lights and no headlights. The harness rested on the tranny and melted letting water and salt (5 years worth) in. I only did not notice it because it was dark when the lights went black, and I could not see that the connector was melted.
anyone have anymore feedback on this issue? i am having the same problem as gramzee. i bought a new relay for the drl's and still the same issue. both my bulbs are good. hi and lo beams work.
Peace Out!!!
well my problem was a bad passenger side bulb. it looked perfectly okay. i bought some cheap bulbs from walmart and used those and all is good.
Peace Out!!!
2.4 CavaWeir, where is the little plastic cube you speak of? The more detailed the description the better.
Its the left side headlight. When mine went, the low beam didnt work. but the filments looked fine. The filiment actaully broke near the bottom so it looked ok. Just pay the 1.25 for the new bulb.
Fact 1:
“Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that’s even remotely
true.
i went looking for the cube that 2.4CavaWeir mentioned but i found nothing. however, i undid the electrical tape and wire looms and found that one of the wires to the highbeam had been knicked with a sharp object. this exposed the wire and it corroded. i cut the affected area and crimped the wire back together and the high beams and drls now work. i retaped everything extra carefully so as to prevent this from happening again.
Peace Out!!!
well on my 99 it is between the two headlights in the headlight wiring harness right around the hood latch.

Im having the same problem. The DRL flash and turn off and I have no low beams only highs. I will check the bulbs and look for that box
Hey! Fixed my problem. My lights were messed too. When I turned on heads, low and hiu on left and hi beam on right would light very dim. Right low would come on properly. If I flicked to hi beams, all lights would stay dim but hi on right would light properly. Also my DRL cluster light would flash. Anyways, problem was broken left headlight wire. Orange wire coming from connector under battery box was corroded at splice. It splices from one wire into four right behind the left head. 97 cav Z24 2.4L
