So my temp needle is frozen, it does not move and remains below 0. Is this a faulty cluster? Fuse? Or bad temp sensor?
I've also noticed my fuel gauge needle is going up but vibrating as it does until it reaches exactly how much fuel the car has. I did replace it previously, the current instrument cluster is from an 03 and worked perfectly until just two days ago where now the temp needle won't move.
So, what do? Temp sensor I imagine has never been replaced and I've yet to do so as I've been replacing other parts.
Hi Kamui,
The stepper motors that are the "meters" in the clusters are known to go bad.
If you are electronically inclined you can try to replace the bad ones.
Do a search on eBay for "GM cluster stepper motor", lots of listings.
I imagine there are also lots of videos on the replacement.
If you take out the cluster, do check the soldering of the stepper motors, the lead free solder that is being used did not help reliability.
I have two bad gauges in my cluster...
Good luck, Peter
Is this the same for the 86 Buick Skyhawk? because my temp needle doesn't work either.
