Convertible Window Rattle

Hey Folks!

I have a 98 Z24 Convertible that I just picked up and when all the windows and top are down the windows sound like they are banging on things (or each other) in the doors. Is this normal with the convertible or is there a good way to tighten things up? None of my other J's have ever sounded like this and I wanted to get some opinions before I start tearing things apart! Thanks!!!!

There are plastic clips that attach to the forward edge of the glass that ride in the front window channel. Those clips always fall off then the glass rattles in that front channel. The clips are probably sitting in the bottom of the door but a lot of times they get broken. Some people have put weather stripping in that front channel to take up the gap. If you search you will find thread. I have not done anything to fix mine yet but I plan to glue the clips onto the glass one of these days,

I have two 1996 Cavalier convertibles. I think that the windows have always rattled when they are in the down position. I've often thought about gluing some kind of pad (maybe Styrofoam) on the door to keep them from rattling.

I wrote a few how-to articles specific to the convertibles. One was about how to replace the power window motors. You may find it useful in helping you disassemble the window. Original picture links broke so I reposted a link later in the thread.

Here's an article on how to make your driver's side window seal properly (if it doesn't). It may be something you want to tackle while you're in there. Original picture links broke so I reposted a link later in the thread.
