A few months ago, my flex pipe rusted out and ended up having holes and what not in it. I was working at a tractor trailer repair shop, so one of the mechanics there gave me a hand. He cut the section of pipe out, and I bought a flex pipe (like shown above) from a local auto parts store. He welded it in, and all was good.
Fast forward to Thursday, the mesh on the outside of the pipe had all ripped off somehow, almost like the heat was too much for it. I bought a different style this time (like above), and the same mechanic cut the old one out and welded in the new one. Started the car up, sounded great and off I went. A minute later I notice a light on my dashboard indicating that my traction control is off. I tried to turn it back on with the switch and it didn't work. So I kept driving to see what would happen, and a minute later the light disappeared, only to come back on again 30 seconds later. A few minutes later my check engine light comes on.
I call up the mechanic and head back to the shop. He welds a bit more when he said he noticed a small leak, fixes one of the exhaust brackets and we let the car idle for about 5 minutes, occasionally revving the engine a little bit. The lights didn't come on, and off I went again.
I went to dinner with some family members, and when I get back to my car the traction control off light and check engine light are back on yet again, and I still can't control the traction control with the switch. A couple of the sharp 90 degree turns I took caused the rear end to make a squealing noise (not from the tires on the road), even though it was at low speed. I'm wondering if this has something to do with the traction control issue?
Any ideas on this?
A lot of the time if there is a minor ABS issue that doesn't set off the light for ABS, but may trip off the 'Trac Off' light as the computer calls for the traction control to be turned off. I would say to check the computer for any codes in the system, pending, current, and history.

There was a code that came up for system running too lean. We also replaced the rear brake shoes last week.
Pulled two codes today.
