Ho Swap Dilemma
Tuesday, April 23, 2013 5:36 AM
So i've done the HO mani swap, i used RTV sealent with the adapter flange and a 2.3L gasket on the MANI. 2.3l tb, the car will idle at 1600rpm no problem, ( yes its a little high but it used to sit at 3000 sooo ill take 1600 ) although well driving it will act as if its on cruise control and steadly slowly climb until 2000 rpm ish. If i engange the clutch ir put the car in neutral the rpm will climb upwards of 3000-4000rpm when it hits the limiter. It will do this until i drop below I.E 5mph. I've cleaned the IAC with sensor kleen, it unstuck the plunger. I have the FPR on the far left nipple on the mani, and the Evap vac line goes to the one directly between runners 2-3 ( due to line fitment) then the MAp sensor i installed on the rear of the mani with an adapter. I now see that most of the map sensors are up front in between runners 2-3. does this matter? on the tb there are 2 vac lines, the one in the middle is blocked off, where as the the little one i have the vac line that comes from behind the mani, at this moment im unaware of where it comes from But all the lines matched up via length.

Now im aware it COULD BE a vac leak ,or a bad TPS or bad IAC, or misplaced vac lines. So im not looking for 4 different people to tell me all the different problems im AWAREof, but better yet to try and pinpoint exactly which one via experience?

Maybe try all the things that you know it could be before asking what else it could be.

Have a nice day.

Ohhh! i was supposed to try those things? Shoot, so i suppose rpelacing both TPS and IAC, and checking for vac leaks with carb cleaner isnt a good idea? Hence the last part of my statement Jordan.. im aware of all those common issues and ive checked for them. Thanks for the tips. This is why the .org is so downhill.

To be fair you didn't say anything about replacing the tps or iac, or if/how you tested for vac leaks. Only that you cleaned the iac and that you are aware of several things it could be, but had not mentioned anything about testing them.

I would double check your gaskets anyway. I don't usually trust straight rtv on anything but to each their own. I have also plugged all non essential vac lines at the manifold in order to rule out leaks farther down the line though not usually an issue with newer cars.

Have a nice day.

Ahah sorry i thought it was made clearr, i just didnt want everyone posting saying it was 20 differnet things. I cant post pics at work :S Sorry to me it was common knowledge because everytime i took out the IAC , the pindle was uptight in there like stuck. I tested for vac leaks with carb cleaner. Around head/mani all vac lines, injectors and tb/mani. Hmm i used straight rtv from spacer/head. and from mani/gasket/sealer/spacer/sealer/head. BUt no noticable leaks with the carb cleaner. I have my FPR on the first nipple, then MAP sensor, i even plugged in my IAT... into the manifold. PLugged the EGR ? port on the rear of the mani, EVAP going to TB, and some other LIL vacuum line. BUt ive noticed now that when i start it in the morning itll idle at 1300 ish area, then after a few seconds itll pick up to 2000 and fluctuate there from 2000-2200 ish. But when i clutch/neutral it idles at 3000 till i drop below 5kmh. IM picking up gaskets today so we shall see i guess.

Ahha ohh crazy ness! this weekend installed all new gaskets and some hi temp copper sealent. re installed them 3-4 grounds? under the plenum. Let her sit overnight wit hthe batt unplugged, started her up and BAM! ran like a top, idles SLIGHTLY low itll try and die at first but once shes warm its all good!. Could be the AEM and Unorthodox pulley combo, causing low voltage power but IDC SHE RUNS AGAIN! THanks Jordan even the smallest vac leak can cause some wacky things
