car---- 99 sunfire 2200 auto trans
story--- driving down interstate started knockin real bad, never over heate or ran out of oil... pulled first spark plg and was drenched in oil..... think its either a blown head gasket (fingers crossed) or a piston seal (hope not lol)
question-- Whats everyones opions???
Never heard a head gasket cause a knocking.
FU Tuning
im not sure what was causing the knock, it still drove just fine other then knocking, rockers and valves in the head were good, pulled all lifters out and none looked bad
Usually a missing or worn down rod bearing will cause a knock

When the head gasket on my Civic blew it would make a knocking sound under load. We assumed it was compression jumping between Cyl 2 and 3 but it definitely wasnt something I would confuse with rod knock.
Whats the cylinder wall and piston in Cyl 1 look like? Shouldve done a compression test before you tore it down.
My buddy changed his oil after 9K in his 2200, and it started knocking at idle and even revving up at 3K. After it warmed up, it went away and hasnt came back since. Sounded alot like a piston slap, but it went away. lucky him.
