Is it safe to say a fuel pump?

2000 Cavalier
5-speed
2.2
158000 Miles
When the ignition is on, you can hear the fuel pump humm and shout off. Spray starting fluid it runs great till it runs out. My guess is the fuel pump. My 2ed guess is the fuel pressure regulator. Am I close?
How many miles is a fuel pump good for now?

Check for fuel pressure at the rail, if no pressure there check fuel filter. And stop with the starting fluid. Its not designed to make a dead engine run, its to help start a running engine that is cold. It does more harm than good.

Have a nice day.
