I just noticed the other day that my 02 Cavi makes a low humming noise when I maneuver to the right at highway speeds. I haven't driven it since I noticed it. My thoughts were it could be the axle, or a bearing. If anyone has any ideas or info, please let me know. I don't want to drive it and the wheel come off..
Wheel bearing(s). Replace them both.
Same exact car (02 cavalier). Same exact problem. Replaced both bearings. The sound was instantly gone.
Awesome, thanks! Is it hard to do?
Thanks! Should I avoid driving it until I'm able to replace them?
I drove at least an entire summer like that. The car passed inspection and there was no sign of play in either bearing so I had no reason to believe the bearings were bad or that the noise was indicative of an imminent safety threat. Eventually I delved into it and came across information that pointed to it being a wheel bearing. As such I replaced both and have since had no noise.
wheel bearings going bad wouldnt cause any issues for a while till your wheels just fall off... but hey could be tires not completely even ... wheel bearings make noise at mid speed no matter direction of travel
