What's up ppl on JBO!

I just purchase a 2nd gen 1991 Z24 3.1 5 speed. It is a zippy little car with some issues. When i got it the car was very hard to put in 1st gear while running, and grind if you try to get it into reverse while running.
With the clutch fully depressed and in 1st gear the car still slowing moves forward because the clutch is not fully disengaged. I have never worked with a hydraulic clutch system before so i new to this. I just replaced the slave cylinder this evening, and still the same thing. The master was not leaking at all so i didnt not replace it. Can someone tell me, what the heck is going on with my ride?

I would bleed the clutch, and see if it helps. You may need a new slave cylinder or master.

Where did you get the slave from? You'd be surprised how many are no good brand new. If you changed that though and you're sure it's bled well, I would suggest just replacing the master cylinder before anything else. Does pumping the clutch pedal help?

no it doesn't seem to help one bit you can feel and hear the slave moving but its not far enough to fully disengage the clutch. But I will go ahead and replace the master

Yeah new does not always mean reliable. I replaced an alternator in my old XJ. The brand new Alternator was bad out of the box. The second one after that was bad, out of the box. Third try, I just upgraded to a $10 more expensive part with a lifetime warranty and it worked great.

Your issues sounds more like clutch drag. The presure plate doesnt sound like its fully releasing the center plate which makes it more difficult to select a gear with the engine running. As the car warms up this could get worse because the components might expand through heat. if it were the clutch it would slip..so I think you can rule that out.

I second the slave cylinder issue. It is either not bled properly so its got air in the hydraulic lines or its leaking causing air to get in and your 'new' one may be bad. a really good bleeding will rule out that i guess

Ok the old slave was crappy, and still i had no luck with this whole issue...new master line bled right... what's next. I am thinking of just doing a new clutch kit and calling it good.

Sounds like you have too at this point. You're 100% sure the line isn't leaking anywhere right? Just trying to help you avoid tearing it all apart.
