Fuel filter been changed regularly? Car ran many times with less than 1/4 tank?
When it primes one out of six times, does it start and keep running?
It does sound like a new fuel pump, but keep good fuel filter changes and run only with more than 1/4 tank, that's what I hear.
I think some people can also get it to start, but not with wd40, but by hitting the fuel pump from under the tank. Is that true?
Never changed fuel filter and yes, I've ran the car under 1/4 here and there.
After starting, it never runs more than 10 sec.
At this point, it will be a new fuel pump. Not sure if i need just pump or whole ASSEMBLY...?
Anybody have suggestions between the three linked in original post?
I'm no expert, but when I need a new pump I hope that I'm able to get the whole tank and pump as one unit, it's just around $60 more for the whole new entire tank.
If the filter hasn't been changed, then I wonder if that's part of the problem, and cleaning the tank, pressure regulator, the fuel and the vacuum lines, and injectors.
I had good luck with a very small amount of sea foam and lots of new fuel in the tank, but it took two days. Apparently my pump is not bad (not yet), but it had me worried because it got really loud driving around town, and the gauge still said about 1/4 tank, but I put more fuel in it again and by day 3 it's all good. I don't know why but now the gauge seems more active, reading sometimes up to a 1/4 more than I probably have in the tank. I'm thinking it might be that it cleaned the pressure regulator-to tank return line too.
I would definitely change that fuel filter tho, probably now and then one more time after a new tank/pump. Maybe a new pressure fuel cap too, if it''s too old.
Do you have a way to get the engine light codes? I wonder what all they are.
you can change the pump without replacing the pump assembly...but at any local salvage yard you can get one prepulled for around $100, if you pick it off the car yourself (pick and pull) i got mine 2 days ago for $40...yes $40. They are $250-300 at parts stores.
Ive mastered taking out the tank, pump assembly, and pump in the last 2 days. Did it 3 or 4 times because i had issues.
not a fun thing, so get your ducks in a row, then make sure they're in a row again before installing, be patient and dont force anything. plastic parts are frail.
btw, i have THREE perfectly good fuel pumps in my garage (not counting the Racetronix Wbody pump in my car haha). You want one? pay shipping or maybe if you have something for sale, ill trade ya...
04 Cav. 2dr. 5spd. My DD. 'Nuff said.
At the moment waiting on Wbody racetronix pump. No harness.
Just hoping the install goes fine as far as the assembly.
@blue04DD: if sh*t hits the fan, i'll let you know

@jr: i will be changing the fuel filter as well with the new pump. note sure about the fuel cap. and NO engine light codes were on.
Just a heads up be prepared to drill out the rivets that hold the heat shield around the gas tank on. I was going to change my fuel pump myself and I saw this and decided it wasn't worth the hassle.
Just wanted to update those possibly looking back at this.
Ordered my Racetronix pump from Lonnies Performance shop and received in 4 days.
When removing pump from assembly, those 3 curved "arms" were tedious to push out.
The hoses do fit loosely on the pump nipples.
