I have a 99 Cav 2.2 that I was just given and went through the first half tank of gas where it was full right to the neck. I only got 165 kilometers which ='s roughly 103 miles. That seems really rough in my opinion. The car has high kilometers on the engine over 200. Any ideas on what to look at for some major increases to fuel economy? This isn't normal right, even with the high kilometers? I feels like it runs smooth too.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Go to the same gas station, use the same pump, at the same time of day. Reset the trip when you fill up so you can get an accurate MPG, miles / gallons. It wouldn't hurt to run some Seafoam through it.

My car has more than double the mileage of your car, and still gets 30 MPG... Is your check engine light on?
2000 Ford F-250 7.3 Powerstroke 4x4 - Not stock
1973 16' Tahiti Speedboat
1983 200 HP Mercury BlackMax
1997 Chevy Cavalier with 275K miles
May be a bad fuel regulator?check the O2, pvc ,Air filter ect just keep up on the maintenance.
Do you know that it actually used a half tank or are you just going by the gauge? Never trust a fuel gauge to be accurate.
I agree I would check the sending unit first, Even that make sure youre 02 sensor is in good working order tune up and fuel filter, Air filter. Ive got 01 cavalier 2.2 ohv. Its has 265,000 km on the motor. I am still getting 450-475 kms full tank of Reg fuel. Once I changed the 02 sensor i noticed my fuel mileage was higher.

and first things first. NEVER fill the tank up all the way. once the pump stops the first time it's full. there needs to be a vapor pocket above the gas.
Actually, the move gas there is in the tank, the less vapor escapes from the tank. I was taught to save on gas, its always best to keep as full as possible in the tank, when it sits the vapor won't leave the tank as much,.if there's more liquid fuel.
So Landor what did you do? Or are you just going to post once then leave?????
