a mechanic that i take my 2002 z24 cavalier to said my clutch was slipping. how hard is it to replace a clutch? and how much would it cost me to have him install it?
its not easy and not hard. gotta have the right tools and another person to help is nice. takes a good day esp if you have never done it. on a scale of 1-10 its probably a 7. prob cost anywhere from 300 to 600 for install depending on your mechanic
im in maryland and the wanted 2100 bucks labor & parts to do the clutch in my 04 Ls sport when my slave cylinder went. I got all parts (clutch, pressure plate, clutch master cylinder, and slave cylinder) for 520 bucks and did it myself at school in about 6 hours, hardest part for me was gettin the trans out in that semi tight spot.
It was mine first time too.
Ya in California we would charge around 2 grand for parts and labor. Unfortunately my shop doesn't let you bring your own parts in.
dang, well thanks everyone
ebay clutch 250, do it yourself, take your time...at most, 2 full days, in short disconnect everything to the tranny, everything in the way, axles out, drop the mounts unbolt it and pull/pry hard, have a jack under it to lower it gently
invest in a nice crow bar, because it will be your best friend if you do it yourself, and go to autozone and rent just about everything you need for free
