i got my gf's 2004 cavalier which is a automatic. we so far replaced her top passenger mount and the dog bone lower mount (the passenger top mount was from a junk yard) but seemed good shape. the problem is when say where going along and we drop the car in neutral and stop the car, you can hear and fee something shift move forward, and when you go from reverse to drive and such it seems like something makes a noise a little like something is moving. it is defiantly not normal. would it be the trans mount? we dont have alot of money to just go out and keep buying parts. any help greatly appreciated.
well if you don't have a lot of money your best option would be to keep buying parts and replacing them till the noise goes away. Or you could just save all that time and money and go to a mechanic and get it done properly the first time. Save you all the time running around for parts and replacing them on your car.
BTW you can check your motor mounts in the driveway while not moving
as I'm guessing you didn't check a thing, just replaced parts.

Sounds like a transmission mount

the car has one or 2 transmission mounts? the car seems fine as far as i can tell when u are already in drive and you physically drive. and the only time you can hear and feel something move really well is when u drive and dump in neutral and use your brakes n almost bfore you stop it does it. and it seems when reverse to drive it might be a little click type noise i think.
my dad was able to change the upper and dog bone motor mount, do you think he would be able to change the transmission (all he has is a jack is or two).
thanks so much for your help. shawn
im getting a new trans mount tommorow. my fingers are crossed that this fixes it.
well looks like im not very lucky lol. i got a transmission mount (from the drivers side mount) from a junk yard and my dad dumped it on. it seems to only have this noise now when you are going along at a good speed, shift to neutral, and right before your almost completelty stopped something moves frontward under the hood. im begging to think maybe its her transmission pieces inside?
thanks so much for your help, and happy canada day!
i was able to find something like this:
http://www.auto-maintenance-repair.com/noises/15/Possible-transmission-noise-in-neutral-from-a-coast-to-stop.html
it states it could be "flywheel/drivetrain coming to a stop with no pressure from the transmission to secure it" it seems to only want to do it when your moving forward and you shift from drive to neutral and use your brakes to stop and when its very close to stop something will move and you can feel it on the floor. im just wondering if its a issue that should be fixed or if it be ok, as itl only happen when u goto neutral and stop. any help greatly appreciate im pulling my hair out on this one.
Its hard for me to understand what your going through. In order to stop you need to go to neutral and then brake? If so, you have something more wrong than just mounts.
no i can stop in drive and it doesnt make the noise then. when i go from reverse and drive i can hear a little noise like something is moving. but u hear it best and feel it best when ur going along and goto neutral and before it almost stops is when it makes the noise. im begging to think its something inside her transmssion not right? or cud it be a axel or something?
we already replaced, trans mount, dog bone mount, upper engine mount.
I guess my question next is, if your in drive, then stop, then shift it, will it make noise?

Like i said. You CANNOT just keep replacing parts in hopes that the noise will go away. What a waste of money.

Well, don't put it in neutral while your rolling. Your forcing parts to move when it doesn't need to move.
