i was thinkin of putting a cone style set up on my ln2 cavalier. but wondering if its actually worth it. right now im averaging 31mpg mostly city but some hwy and would love to get as much as possible since gas is almost 4 bucks a gallon. what you guys think? or any specific brands? i appreciate it thanks alot guys.
i have one and it did seem to improve mine..its also made my car idle a little better and better acceleration..i drive a 97 sunfire with the older 2.2 and it stopped that ticking every 2.2 sunfire iv seen has (idk if cavaliers are the same) i just have a ebay intake with a ghetto off brand cone filter
Anytime you improve efficiency you should improve MPG. At least in theory.
PRND321 Till I DIE
Old Motor: 160whp & 152ft/lbs, 1/4 Mile 15.4 @88.2
M45 + LD9 + 4T40-E, GO GO GO
welll let me rephrase my question in theory it should help but i guess what im asking is would it help enough to justify paying for it? theres a spectre at oriellys for 20 bucks is it worth paying that? how much better do you think you guys get?
id say i get anywhere from 3-5 more mpgs depending how i drive, it improved my response time so much its hard to keep my foot off the floor..thats the reason i bought mine
so how many mpg do you get now?

you'd see MUCH better gains on that intake if you turned the filter up towards the battery and gave it a heat shield. where it's at it's sucking in the hottest air in the engine bay (it's surrounded by the exhaust manifold, upper rad hose, and radiator. conversely, get a cai for a 2200 and mod it to fit. SUPER easy.

i actually just traded intakes with my friend.he bought a AEM intake for his integra but it didnt fit so we tried mine and it fit like a dream and his fit mine.. at the moment the intake is in roughly the same spot but i may get the piping to run it over to where the airbox was..and i couldnt turn the filter over it would hit my hood, and it just does touch each batt terminal when its turned up..so thats why its turned down...im thinkin bout running it behind my headlight
Well just by changing your air filter to a upgraded version statistlically only improves mpgs by 10%.Granted it can help with other areas but,as for literally increasing your mpg say 1 mpg or more I doubt it.It depends on how u drive, conditions, and even being a auto or manual figures into the equasion.Slower take offs, easier stops, and build your speed evenly not haul azz to reach road spd.Just changing your driving habits can change ur mpg's for FREE,try less idle slow starts, and NO quick stops, this makes a difference.Keep ur tires at normal press check wkly (I DO) and try it for a wk.Good luck and just suggestions and may others add or correct me if need be.
