Ever since I bought my Sunfire (99 GT, Auto), it has had the ETS light on and no amount of clicking the on/off switch on the shifter will turn it back on. There is no CEL present, and the ABS also seems to be disabled (from what I hear, the ETS/ABS modules are closely related), so when I slam on brakes from moderate speeds, I don't feel any ABS kicking in. I'm also not really getting hard shifts like other people on here have had - the only time I can even feel it shifting is 1-2.
Is there anything I can check? I'm about to be replacing my left front wheel bearing - is there something I can check while down there? I'm not incredibly worried about it, because I don't really need traction control (we rarely have slick roads down here) - I'm just tired of seeing the light on.
Note: I am a newb to this car - I've done moderate repairs on my old Taurus, but that's a whole 'nother beast. I'm still getting familiar with this car, so I apologize in advance if I have to ask questions about locations of parts
mine stays on too "ETS OFF" i can click my button and turn it on but i have to hold it..i think its sum spring or sumthin behind the button that is broken..but idc that it stays on my car is so slow im lucky if i do spin a tire..hahaha other than that i havnt found anything either other than a piece of tape to hold it XD
Wheel sensor. Get it tested to save yourself some time. Scan tool will tell you which one/s is/are bad.

Surely you don't have the 2.4 - I don't have a problem in the world spinning tires...but then again, my tires are waaaaay old and the car is pretty young mileage-wise (just turned 101k a few weeks ago)
sadly, for mine, it doesn't matter how long i hold the button down...
@bradks88 - Paha...This would be my first experience with a scanner (never needed one with my old car, she was a 94
). I'm assuming the connector is under the dash? Also - to access the wheel sensor, will I need to remove the whole hub assembly? If so, I hope it's the driver's side sensor...because I'm about to replace that wheel hub. Wheel sensor = ABS/speed sensor?
Thanks, y'all!
Well you would need a shop-quality scanner. Pretty expensive, but if you run by your local shop they should be able to do a quick check and not charge you much.
Yes wheel sensor means speed sensor.
yea i have the 2.2..lol and its auto, that would be why i cant, but it gets me back and forth to college.im tossing around ideas of motor swaps in the future when i get another daily
