I am about to do a tune up on my cavalier 2.4L that has 96xxx miles. Just wondering what some of you are using for OIL, SPARK PLUGS, PLUG WIRES, OIL FILTER, TRANNY FLUID etc

-Castrol Syntec 5w30
-NGK Platinum (heard good things about split-fire but could not find anyt, had NGK's in it before so just replaced with same)
-As I am sure you will notice, there is no wires but there are little "boots", not sure if there is good or bad ones, probably just use OEM
-I have always used Fram (Extra guard with conventional oil and Xtended guard with synthetic) (although many people have neg things to say about them on most Forums, i have never had any issues with them)
-Is it an manual or auto? IIRC most manuals do not require fluid changes but if you need to, use OEM GM fluid.

Also at a certain milage, not sure of the top of my head, you should change/flush the coolant system.

i was talking to this mechanic with a saturn sc2, the 1.9 dohc i think he had, he had like 180k miles on it and beats the fcuk out of it like no tomrw, revving way into redline pushing it to 140mph which is basically holding it at redline for a good while lol
hes like its mainly about the oil, he said he uses 2 quarts luccas oil and the red of mobil 1 full synthetic 10w30 with K&N filter, he said yeah its expensive but instead of changing it every 3000 miles, hes at 6000 and the oil still looks brand new, he said synthetic blend is just as good as conventional and fram isnt as good as it seems
as for manual transmissions, just use penzoil synchromesh
2.4s dont have spark plug wires since the coil packs are right ontop of the spark plugs
as for plugs, i heard ngk platnums are good too

Pretty much it comes down to what u want. My 2.4 has Delco Platinums, Napa Mileage plus "boots" and use just normal 10w30 Castrol GTX oil, and Napa Gold oil filter. To me its fine, so it comes down to prefrence. Oh and trans fluid, if its manual i woukd just get the stuff.gm put in there from the dealer, if its auto ( i really wouldnt touch it if its never beej done before you stand a chance of damaging ur trans but its your call) DextronIII/Mercon IIRC. good luck.
