I have a 96 Cav Sedan, 2.2L OHV w/ 144k on it. The car sat without running for about 9 months, battery disconnected (was doing body work on the car)
I just put in a new battery and replacement ground cable. Now when the car is started it runs fine, but when you put it into gear (any gear) the Instrument cluster and radio shut off for a split second and then come right back on.
I also noticed that the front turn signals both come on and blink no matter which signal is on.
Everything worked fine when I parked the car in the garage.
Has anyone seen this problem before?
Any help is truly appreciated.
Thank you!
after reading through a whole bunch of posts on the site I found my answer... It was a ground wire that I neglected to reconnect under the battery tray when replacing the ground cable...
Boy do I feel dumb..
i have the same problem but mine keeps cutting in and out . Did u have a buzzing sound coming from the dash when it happened like i am hearing when it flicks in and out. what ground did you fix, the one that bolts to the battery tray or the 2 little one under the tray.
There was no buzzing sound inside the car, but there was a humm from the alternator.
The Ground I fixed was the 2 little ones that bolt under the battery tray.
Be aware that if your batter leaked you may have a good bit of corrosion under here, even to the point where it's completely consumed the wires.
That was the case when my headlights quit. I know, different part, but the wires run through the same area under the battery.
Let me know what you find.
yeah changed entire harness so far under the hood (engine, head lights). my head lights and speedo works now lol but the rmp gauge and cd player still keep freakin out when i put in any gear besides park. i`ll figure out out soon or later lol.
