My 94 Z24 has a problem with the front end. On my way home last night, it was Icey out and sleeting and I hit some bumps and then about 1/2a mile later, when I let off the gas the car started wobbling left and right, almost like the tires are not bolted on. (Not like unbalanced tires either, and they have the right Air pressure too) Just checked the lugnuts the other day too. The steering wheel in my hand goes left and right really fast, and the whole car shakes like crazy. It only does this when I let off the gas (or basically has no torque on the trans/driveshafts) Even if I hit the brakes it still does it. I just had a sway bar end fall off, so I checked that again, but both are still tight and attached. I'm thinking maybe a drive shaft got iced up and failed, or broke, and it spins with "force"on it ok, but when loose it locks and makes the car wobble? Does anyone have any ideas? I will be climbing under the car tomorrow.

anyone have any ideas?

I almost want to bet ur ball joints or tie rods are bad. something is not right obvoisly. best bet is to lift the front end off the ground and grab the front and back of the wheel, and shakes it, if it moves then ur tie rods are shot (and when i say move i dont mean a little i mean quite a bit). then if that shows nothing grab the bottom of the wheel and push and pull, if that moves then ur ball joints are bad. hope this helps. goodluck.
ok, thanks.

i agree with MIKE Z.....
the 'grab and pull/turn' the wheels test work every time!
i had one of my ball joints pop OUT, not just fail, but it failed to stay ON! lol in the middle of a hard turn on my 85 camaro at 40 mph.....i replaced the joint, and my underwear on the side of the road that night! lol ANYWAY!
hitting those pot holes or hard bumps will destroy suspension/steering bushings good luck bud let us know what happens!!
Probably either a tie rod, spindle joint, or hub assembly (wheel bearing).
How much ice/slush and all got packed up in the wheel well and the struts?
i find it amusing that SHOoff has nothing better to do but follow me around & be an unhelpful dick in even cross-forum. - Jon Mick
when I looked while on the way home, it didn't look like any was still in the wheel well/ struts or rim. I put the car on Jacks today and did the push/pull and twist thing to the tires on both sides and really got no movement to speak of. I started her up and let her run, and also didn't get the death wobble from the steering wheel. either they need some pressure on it to make it happen, or in the extended position they don't do it. How can I tell if the drive shaft is bad without taking it off the car? (they look fine to the eye, Boots are still complete and everything) When it was running (left in 1st or 2nd gear) spinning the hubs, occasionally the drivers side would slow way down, In first it would even stop, but the passengers side would cruise on at idle. I checked all my Sway bar connections, and everything else associated with each wheel (as far as bolts go) one of the little rubber grease fittings under the passenger side hub was falling apart, but I don't think that would do this. (Car is 18 years old now, so rubber fittings are expected to look pretty bad). I'm going to put the tires back on and see if it does it on the jacks. Then maybe take it for a drive. (maybe I just had some ice stuck up somewhere) if it still happens I probably have to pull the drive shafts.
Thanks for the ideas so far guys.

extra tid-bit, Put drivers side tire on, but not passenger and the drivers side doesn't spin much at all with the tire on. I have to really rev it to get it to start. Passenger side hub is spinning like mad. Are these cars known for doing 1 wheel burn outs? or could this be a problem? I'm going to put the passenger tire on and pull the drivers side and see if it does anything differently, then put both back on.

looks like it was just ice in the tire or something, put it back together and ran fine yesterday. I'll keep an eye on it though.

so guess it's not gone. drove it for a while again, about 40 miles and it came back about 1/2 way through. Any ideas what might be "fixed" with lifting the tires off the ground and then putting it back down, but will work it's way back? (someone I know said likely a bad Bearing?)
Thanks.
