Check your oil level... You might be a little low.

as said check your oil, otherwise could b pump going out. if it wont put enough pressure through at idle, could be either one.

yeah if its only coming on at a stop i would def check the oil level first...if thats ok...next check out the oil pressure sending unit...after that would be the hardest item the pump...good luck

My Sunfire likes to do the same thing occasionally with the oil light coming on at idle and disappearing above idle. The oil level is correct, but this problem comes and goes. The light will be out as normal for a long time, then the problem with the light coming back on will reappear, although the oil level remains at full.

Engine?? Car?? Year?? Miles??

We need that information before we can give a real idea.

There are a few different ideas that comes to mind. It could be low oil level, bad oil pressure sensor, bad oil pump, or worse-bad engine itself. I say this because my girl had a 97 Sunfire with the 2.2 OHV that had the oil light come on at the stop lights after running for a while, changed the pressure sensor, the pump, and used thicker oil and still nothing. Came to the conclusion that the engine was just worn out.

Also, in my Vert now, when I first bought it, it would come on at lights only after driving it for a very very long time, and pushed the connector into the oil sensor and it stopped. So there are a few different ways that can be diagnosed. Either way man, Goodluck!

Mine's been doing that since I got it. .. so nearly 30K miles now. I figure with nearly 270K miles on the oil pump, it's getting a bit tired. Plus, it seems that the old owner wasn't too fond of changing the oil on time, I'm sure there was lots of sludge. A quality 10w40 oil keeps it from coming on.
