hi guys, my gf just got a 04 cavalier automatic 4 door. it has 152,000kms on it and with the ecotec motor. when she goes over a bump or a road that dips down and up, something in the front of her car kinda creeks, i think thats the word im looking for. she took it to the garage to get it looked at and he said it was the rear control arm bushing on both sides in front, so she got those replaced.
but the car still creaks in the front, what might this be? any help greatly appreciated, thxs, for your time, shawn
I had the same problem on my 2005 Cavalier. I found that the noise was coming from upper strut mounts, which have a plastic mounts that are prone cracking problems. Mine creaked and groaned so bad that I thought the whole front end was going to fall apart! Took the car in to the dealership, and the clown that tried to fix it, sprayed spray on lubricant all over the top of the strut mount.... but that didn't get rid of the noises. I thought that the only way to fix the noise was to replace the strut mounts.
But then I discovered that if you look at the top of the strut mount, just under the black metal mounting bracket, there are slots cut into the top of the strut. If you spray some GRAPHITE SPRAY LUBRICANT into those slots, it gets rid of the noise! It's the same stuff you use on car locks. Make sure you get the spray type with the extension tube to spray down into the slots, not on the top of the strut mount. Some other type of spray on dry film lubricant might work as well.
yeah, strut mount or control arm bushings.
