ok sooo i have a few questions a buddy of mine is looking at a 99 z24 with the 2.4 of course. well the 2.4 is bad and he is thinking of putting the 2.2 i have from my wreaked 99 in it well we are unsure if it is possible, and if so what kind of complications are gonna occur
would it be a simple bolt in and out swap or is it useless?
is it even possible?
are there any complications that may occur if it is possible?
will the 2.2 bolt up the trans in the z24?
are the wiring the same or would that all have to be changed out too?
if there are anything else that we should kno plz state this
any and all help is welcome and will be lovely
Thanks in advance

You have to swap engine, transmission, and all wiring. Depending on the year of the assembley, possibly mounts as well
is it even possible?
Very possible, but not worth it

Not if you know what you are doing
will the 2.2 bolt up the trans in the z24?
No.

See first reply

It would be much easier to swap in a same or similar year 2.4. All 2.4's from any Cavy, Sunflower, Grand Am, Alero, Malibu, Achieva ect, are pretty much the same.
Currently #4 in Ecotec Forced Induction horsepower ratings. 505.8 WHP 414WTQ!!!
Currently 3rd quickest Ecotec on the .org - 10.949 @ 131.50 MPH!!!
the 2.2 is rated at about 110 base Hp... the 2.4 is rated at about 150 base hp...
that z24 is going to have no balls after the 2.2 gets dropped in... and everything roofy posted is correct...
99 is an odd ball year as things changed up mid year... the major things that this includes are wiring, mount locations on the chassis, ecms, and transmissions.
If hes getting the car cheap enough (which he should be if it has a bad engine) make a junkyard trip and get a low mileage 2.4. Bingo Bango.
Hows that funny? Gotta know how to swing it man. I can find one right now.
ok ty you for answering those questions and i dnt think hes going for playin around with it or nothing i think hes just going for a fuel efficient and a quick fix and i dnt know how much hes getting it or nothing soo lol

going from a 2.4 to a 2.2 is not a quick fix. Also... the 2.4 is about the same in fuel efficiency. I think the 2.2 gets one more mpg...
I think you guys aren't seeing the real reason he wants to go from 2.4 to 2.2, free engine from a friend

I caught that right away, but there is not really a easy way to go from a LD9 to a LN2. But then again, you have everything you need. You will need the harness, both the engine and transmission, the engine sub-frame, the PCM, and thats pretty much it. OH and all the mounts from the LN2. You can do it, but is it really worth it, not really. but goodluck.
