I have a '97 cavalier 4dr with the 2.2l auto, 153k miles that i just picked up for use as a daily driver, car has been running great for about a week that i've had it, however today for some odd reason, the car will just not start. I've been reading a few posts and have tried switching my relays, the pump primes every time, checked for spark and its good, there hasn't been any check engine lights on since i've been driving the car, but today the weather has been cold and raining all day. I did read something about a cam sensor causing the engine to not start, could that be the problem? if it is, would it throw a code on the computer so i would know for sure?
Any insight would be great.
Thanks
Tony
Will it start for a second and then die?
nope, just turns over and over,,,every now and then i'll here a slight poof, but not enough to justify a start.

Try pulling out the fuel pump relay and cranking it over a few times, then plug the relay back in and try starting it. It sounds like its flooded.
Wow, this sounds all too much like my girls Sunfire. 2.2 when it was raining or damp outside it would not start. Seemed to be a issue in the wiring going to crank sensor and just would not let the car start. Once dried no problem. I cant say the same is the problem here, But it could be. Goodluck.
I'll know more tomorrow, i gave up trying to fix it myself and trailered it over to a friends shop,,,i'm thinking its going to be one of the sensors, either cam or crank,,,we will see.
Tony
Does it crank faster than normal?
Well it turns out it was the crank sensor, nice only a $10 item, but was it a pain to pull out.
First he checked for spark, didn't show any, which was odd cause i did see spark, but maybe the crank sensor was just triggering alittle at that point, but anyway, then we check to see if there was any injector pulse, which there was, so he said that rules out the cam sensor. Then he went to the crank sensor and hooked up the scan tool to it to read the pulse, at first it was sending any signal, then it start to, so we hooked it back up and the car started.
Put a new one in and now the car runs like a champ!
Thanks
Hmm, figured it had something to do with that. Glad shes running again!!
