Hi
Every so often I notice a burnt smell while driving the car. It smells kind of like burnt plastic, coolant antifreeze or oil.
I started noticing this after I had my oil changed. I checked the oil dipstick and can't seem to see how full the oil is. It looks like it's way up past the hash marking. So could this mean it's too full? I checked the coolant overflow and it is at the right level. I checked the PS and it's full. The only other thing I noticed is the valve cover has oil residue on sides but not on top.
Can anyone help me identify the source of the burnt smell without me having to go to a mechanic?
Thanks

First I would use some sandpaper (3M 1500) on the dipstick to get it like new and be able to see how is the oil level although it happens sometimes that when they are putting the new oil they spill some and if some gets to the exhaust it burns and produces the smell for a few days then it just disappears. But if it is overfilled and a lot I would correct that.
