can anyone give me a few possibilitys as to what may be causing a horrible ticking sound. it sounds like its coming from the middle of the engine, you can hardly hear it at idle but as i press on the gas it gets louder and faster the more gas i give it. any solutions would be awesome. i have a 2.2l ecotec 2003 cavy.
check exhaust manifold for leaks, had the same problem.

No I don't think the header leaks but I will check. Iv heard it could be a misfire, rockets,or my plugs sparking. What's the best way to start checking possible issues off the list of ticking possiblitys?
exhaust is my first thought, im not really sure what other things may cause a loud ticking sound, your injectors could be ticking, and it sound like the center of you engine i guess it time to just check everything, while the engine is cold check the spark plugs, boots and heck if you bored enough pull the valve cover and see if anything is loose in there lol

Get a stethoscope from your local auto parts store. But be careful around moving parts and hot areas.Does it sound quit or loud when the engine is hot or cold?
Rockers are a common things on our cars, Im not sure on the eco's but on the 2.2 ohv is was common to sound like a time bomb at 100k. its a simple fix if you know what your doing, but not too pricey to have a shop do it.

Could you walk me through how I could fix them? I'm going to auto tech school when I graduate this year and I enjoy learning and doing things myself the correct way.
Take a video and post it. There are a million and one sounds an engine can make like that, and your description is vague

....best way, dude.......Make sure to do a walk around of the moor while recording..........My Eco motor is making some noise too and not sure but I think my cams may be worn.....180,000 on my car...plus my serp. belt tensioner is making a bit of noise too.....but my vote is for the rockers like fireboy suggested.....

My Eco only has 73k on it. I'm tech challenged so I'm gonna figure out how to post a video. I have to shovel the stupid driveway first ha.
ya ticking could be anything from an exhaust leak to a rod knock, doubt fuel injector noise as thats not a very loud noise, at least not that ive ever heard before
horsepower is the force that determines at what speed you hit the wall, torque is the force that determines how far you take the wall with you after you hit it.
Assuming the loud ticking noise in my car is coming from my rockers, how can I fix it. I would really like to try.
