New belt
New tensioner
New power steering pump
all pulleys alligned
all Cleaned
all dry
no pulleys wobble
no pulleys make noise

I DONT GET IT why do i still have this horrible noise...the new belt is the last thing i put on and it lasted me a day until the noise slowly came back

Does the noise get louder when you rev the engine or turn the steering wheel?

Im almost willing to bet its the AC compressor. Those always make noise and sometimes it goes away and comes back, i know my girls LS it does. Try the belt thats for u your engine that bypasses the ac compressor, and drive it around, if it dont come back, there is ur issue. Im willing to bet it is.

right now, no. but the belt is 1 day old but it chirps a little and its slowly chirping more and more...but before the new belt yes it did go up with revs, not so much the steering wheel

you know what, sorry i am wrong about one thing...the tensioner is not new BUT the tension is perfect and it will go tigher, it doesnt move up and down when the car is on and the belt doesnt flop around when running and im sure the noise getting more and more is just from the belt slipping alot its ruining the belt fast when causes more slip but
is it possible that the tensioner is moving down a tiny bit releasing some tension when the car is running(with load) and tightens back up when the car is off(no load)?

i had someone tell me to hit the pullies with wd40. mine ended up being the bearings in the water pump even though it didnt leak or nothing.

its deffinately the belt cause i spray the belt with water, just the belt, and the noise changes...never use belt dressing or wd40...the belt gets messy but worse the pulleys get messy and wont dry on their own

spray the belt with starter fluid and that dries out the oil and all the fluids on the belt and pulleys, let it idle for a while till the starter fluid dries...i did that and soooo much dirt shot off the pulleys and belt, THEN i put new belt on lol im starting to think its the tensioner, tension is good but thats the only thing i can possible think of, that when there is load, the auto tensioner moves

Someone told me about "Glazed Pulleys" which i've never heard of, the noise comes right from the power steering pulley which i remember was a bit "shiney" gonna check that out and maybe sandpaper it down

You could also try some good high power brake clean on those pulleys, and maybe like u said a little sand paper on the PS pulley. If thats where the noise is coming from and you have glazed pulleys that should clear the issue. You could also pick up a new pulley for ur PS since its not too expensive and since u have a new belt on there that might clear it up too. Goodluck!

whn i did the new PS pump, i was going to buy a new pulley but some reason the new pulley was $69+tax and a rebuilt pump was $49+tax so i said oh no no no lol the pulley looks shiney, but also the altinator one looks the same...maybe ill just one day this week, do the tensioner, sand all the pulleys, and throw a new belt on since im sure the daily driving with a noisey belt is ruining this belt

bump, replaced tensioner and belt at same time, its quieter but on cold starts i can hear it sqeaking liek a chirping sound, and with my experience with this i can only imagine it will only get worse and worse...any ideas? its coming right from the PS pulley, maybe the pulley has U grooves instead of V grooves now? anyone had this happen? or ive heard White Lithium Grease or Silicon Spray will end the noise, i dont want to spray anything but everything else seems to be working just this noise!

Also question about tensioner, with auto tensioners, do i just put the new belt on and let the tensioner go do its work or do i have to adjust it when the belt settles?

I don't have a older 2.2 but the 2200. I was getting the same noise from the power steering pump. Where it was the idler pulley before it flew apart. I believe you have one and it is right around the same place as the 2200. You could also be blowing coolant out of the overflow bottle hose. As it will leak right on the belt. Or try changing the water pump. Should only be 20-30 for that. Or see if it is leaking out of the bottom. The idler pulley is about the same price also.

It is very unlikely for the ribs on the pulleys to wear out. As the belt will first. I'm my 2200 sunfire is going on 170k and sounds like it did when it was new. Still changed the belt, idler pulley, water pump, and replaced the seal in the ac compressor. But it is original and I've dogged the hell out of it since it was in my other car when I got it with 60k on it. O and on a auto tensioner just let it out and go. It is spring loaded applying force the whole time. No need to worry about it period unless it is bad.

Well the power steering pump is new, like a month old but same pulley, I don't know but i did tensioner and used a cheap new belt, when belt was off i spun the alternator pulley and it was a different noise and not as loud.....now with new tensioner, new(cheap) belt im still hearing something very faint like it's the alternator pulley bearing, it's only when its cold, once the engine warms it goes away(which ive read somewhere that the altinator bearing does that).....i pop the hood and try to listen, i cant really tell which direction it was coming from so ill wait till it gets worse and figure it out.

My last noise was crazy loud and I'm throwing a guess the noise was coming from the power steering pulley cause that was the pulley right after the tensioner and new tensioner fixed that, older 2.2s dont have idler pulley, some say they do, but the tensioner IS the idler pulley.....so all in all, auto tensioners can have good tension when car is off but under load, they might not be good

thanks everyone for help =)
