I just replaced the thermostat and put fresh coolant into my 99 2.2 then my heat was blowing cold and my car temperature guage was going cold to the red in hot.. Then sometimes it would jump back to cold and hot again.. So I was told I had air in my coolant system.. so I jacked up the car on the passanger side removed the coolant cap and let the car run.. After a half hour I was able to put in about another half of a container of antifreeze and my heat was blowing hot and my temperature guage was staying cool.. I used the car for three days amd it ran fine and I had heat.. But today I was using the car and the heat started blowing cold again and the car overheated and stalled out on me... Any idea what the problem is?
Sounds like you got air the cooling system, Take the resivor cap off when the engine is cold. Allow the engine to idle for 15 mins, every 2-3 mins press the accelerater hold it around 1,000 to 1,200 rpm for around a min or so. repeat this for 15 mins the air should be removed from youre cooling system. temp will read normal. Note while the throttle is pressed the temp gauge might read hot, Its just the air beening released from the cooling system.
Good Luck.
Thanks very much rich ill try to bleed it again.. I really appreciate the feedback
Now im confused I jacked the car up tried getting more air out ... Put the heat on high hand heat while the passanger side was jacked up and the car temp was staying between 1/2 and 3/4 so I did this about 45 mins added coolent when needed.. Thought I was finished so I put the cap back on the coolant tank. Put the car down and I had get for two blocks then the heat got cold and the car started going into the red on the temp gauge.. The whole time I was bleeding the air out there was steam coming out the coolant tank.. Any other ideas?
