Ok me and the g/f was going out of town today. I started hearing a hissing sound. Just sounded like a vacuum leak. Didn't think much of it and got a hour away from home pulley and hill. Where I heard a bang and sh!t go flying. Pulled over and started looking and seen the idler pulley was long gone somewhere but found the bolt to it. Pulled it off the side of the road and had to call someone to take me and get tools and a idler pulley from advance.
Well there is something serioursly wrong by the looks as my bolt looks like this in the idler pulley
http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=11&t=144116&a=2 . Which I am pretty positive isn't right. When I seen it and was already pissed off I just stuck it on and cranked it down. Which it was cold as a mofo any way up here. Well to my surprise it stayed on for me to make it home. So now I want to fix it back to right. As it looks like there is suppose to be a spacer type deal go in the center. I have another stock pulley but the bolt and stuff is gone. Have that from when I picked the sunfire up it was blew up. So when I did the 2.4 5 speed swap in mine. I put the 2200 out of it in that car. So have nothing to really double check on unless I go to the junkyard and look. Just kind of hard to do when the g/f is driving my car since I don't really trust hers the way it is at the moment.
The car is a 00 sunfire with the 2200. Motor is out of my 99 but as far as I know there is no difference between them. Not bad for a water pump and idler pulley to be the only thing I have changed on it. So far 160k dog piss miles and still running strong. lol I just need to know if there is a piece missing or if it is suppose to be like that. If it is suppose to be like that. It is a little retarded if so. But doubt it.
Ill try to remember to look at mine tomorrow when it's light out. I forget what attaches to the bracket.
I got it fixed yesterday. There is nothing that holds it on. Cept where the bolt goes in the bracket. But there is a little plastic bushing type deal. That threads on to the bolt to center the pulley. I guess the pulley got hot and melted it before the pulley flew apart. Thanks though for going to look. As I didn't think anyone is going to help me out.
