Hi guys, I just bought another Sunfire from my neighbor. I bought it on the assumption (by him) that the timing chain was toast. I have an engine from my black J to swap in, so I tried to start it to see on my own whats going on. I'm not sure what to think about it cuz when I tried to start it in my garage it would turn over but only start with my foot to the floor and proceed to run for a few seconds like that - although VERY rough. I tried this a few times just for fun.>:o
Intermittantly it would turn over like there was absolutely zero compression - which leads me to believe the timing chain fault. However It was spraying oil from the oil filter seal like there was a ton of oil pressure.
Any Ideas on this engine? I have read that the LD9 is an interference engine so I'm guessing if thats the case then the valves at least are done?
What do you think? Any other ideas?
I would, of course, rather just repair a simpler problem than replace the engine.
i think you on the right track i would bother waisting time with that motor, if you have another motor to swap in it would probably take less time to swap then to figure out if the other one is any good, but if it turns over like no compression, and when it does run, its rough, i think you may have answered your own question

I'm going to just yank the engine and see if its salvagable at all. If it is i'll rebuild it with my turbo in mind other than running it on a stock engine. Gonna toss in the one from my black 'fire and see where it goes.
