To elaborate:
My $50 cavalier's passenger door was locked. Since I've never had a passenger in my car (since it hasn't moved since I bought it, and generally, I'll be the only one in this car), I never thought to check to see if it worked. Something made me think I should check to see if this useless door works today. It doesn't. It locks and unlocks, but the @!#$ doesn't open. How do I fix this?

Take the door panel off and see if the rods are still connected. The plastic retainers can break. Either that, or the latch itself is frozen. Does the handles work?? Basically you can move both handles but nothing happens right??? If so then just check and see if the rods are there. Only tricky part about this is going to be to get the door panel off with the door shut. But once its off, (If you want too, you can open the drivers side door panel off for reference so you know what your looking for. Im going to bet those plastic clips are broken, and the rods are popped off the latch, and off the handles. Those clips can be bought from Autozone and come in a little set that has all types in there. Goodluck!
You kick it.. very very hard.

The inside handle moves all the way, but the outside on doesn't, and neither will open the door. Once I get lunch and get on the Oil pressure sending unit, I'll give your suggestions a try. The handle doesn't open all the way on either side. I have a feeling once I get the door panel off, it will be a matter of some WD-40 or a bit of a cleaning in there. The car was sitting for two years, after all. I was surprised it made it into my yard from out of town.

good luck getting the panel off without breaking it, all the retainers and screws are hidden in the frame areas when the doors closed.

Well, either way it goes, its going to need to come off. He can find them in junk yards tho, so it wont be that bad.

It was pretty @!#$ to start with. For the cost of it, I'm not overly worried about it. Decided again tearing it apart right now. I'm going to try another suggestion: Spraying the piss out of the gap in the door from outside with WD40. I need a can anyways, and it really can't hurt. The interior smells like WD40 and adhesive remover anyways.

If WD40 doesnt help, try PB Blaster. Cost a little more, but works great at fighting against rust. I would use that instead of the WD40. I had my Escalade and the locks were frozen on those. Litereally since the truck was brand new on 02 (I bought her used in 05) they have never used the door locks to open the doors, only the key fob, so the keys would not work in the door locks cylinders. So I sprayed a crap load of PB Blaster into them, worked the key for about 5 or 6 mins each door, and boom, they unfroze and I was able to use the keys when needed. Goodluck buddy. Let us know how it turns out!
Will try. Need to stop in on Canadian tire or NAPA to grab some when I get the time and access to the running car. It's been hectic lately for me between work and home, so the cav has taken a bit of a back seat. Still need to install the Oil pressure sending unit, and I think the plugs are old. It definitely needs new oil, too. I just need the time to get to it all while its still light out.

Went out to start it up today. Cleaned the snow off and noticed a gap in the passenger door. So I pulled on the door really hard and IT OPENED! This is especially good since the driver's side door was frozen shut and needed to be opened from the inside. I guess it just needed to be opened and closed a couple times.

Awsome!! But get that panel of, and spray the linkage and latch with WD40 or PB Blaster. Never hurts tio just be safe this way they wont lock up on u again.
