My axel broke last week, i have bought 3 different axels and none of them have freakin worked. Everytime they order one, it always come in without the damper and is too short but every parts store says thats the right one for my car. Im so fustrated right now i just dont know what to do. I was wondering if anyone has done a axel lately and has the correct part number and where to get it from. My car is a 2003 Cavalier 5spd with abs, its the passenger side i need
Ok, new issues now. Someone finally got me the right axel, got it installed and everything, but now the car drives like crap. Feels loose as hell, there is a constant thunking sound when i reach up to the speed limit and and dont accelerate any more, and also when i coast getting ready to stop. Right turns it sounds horrible, and feels like the wheel is trying to bounce off the road and sounds like a grinding sound. I replaced the ball joint a week ago so i dont think it would be that. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like the axle isnt all the way in or the nut isnt tight enough causing the axle to slide in/out a touch on turns.
What I usually do to install axles in slide it in the transmission, than take the axle put it in the spindle, thread the nut on so it is flush with the end of the axle, and take a DEAD blow hammer and hit it. You will feel it lock into place
Once its in remove the nut, install the ball joint into the spindle tighten that down, dont forget the cotter pin, than tighten down the axle nut, and you are good to go.
Also does this one have a spacer in between the axle nut and spindle

some aftermarket axels don't come with the damper there balanced differently something has to be wrong if your brealing that many of them as if your givin them the right info you should be getting the wrong part

A friend of mine works at O Reily's and came over to help me put it in. It did lock into the trans and wouldnt go anymore. There is a spacer between nut and spindle. I havent broke three, they just kept ordering the wrong ones, im lucky like that i guess, lol. All the axels that i had come in, and even the current one that works does not have the damper on it. According to the guys that work there, they said none of the ones they could get have the damper. Im wondering if that might be some of my problem
