2.3 or 2.4
Saturday, October 30, 2010 6:44 PM
I have a question for all the 2.3 and 2.4 guys. My neighbor has a 1995 Grand Am with a bad water pump. I am able to do that with no problem. My main concern is that they ordered the water pump for a 2.3 quad4. I went over and looked at earlier and the valve cover says 2.4 twin cam. Are those valve covers interchangeable? The chassis stick says its supposed to be a 2.3. I just wanna make sure to get the right parts. I am not that familiar with those 2 motors. Any help would be appreciated.

How about some pictures of the engine? IDI covers can be swaped easily.

I'll get some of it tomorrow and post them up.

If I remember right the 2.4 wasn't available until '96. If it has not had a motor swap, it should be a 2.3L, the 2.4L TWIN CAM cover is a fairly simple swap by the looks of it and they go bad all the time.

here is an easy way to tell the difference. If the oil fill tube is by the intake, then it's a 2.3... If it has the oil fill on top of the timing cover, then it's a 2.4.
