Oil in intake pipe near TB
Tuesday, September 28, 2010 8:34 AM
So when I was cleaning my engine bay this weekend, I realized once i took the intake off that there was a small amount of oil in the intake tube closest to the TB. When I say a small amount, I ran my finger around the inside of the pipe and picked up all of oil on one side of my finger. Is this something I should worry about? The cars an '04 Cav with a little over 61k. Absolutely no problems with performance whatsoever, no mods aside from a short ram intake.

My car does the same thing, though it wouldn't be an ecotec. I've been told that it's not a problem. If the ecotec is the same as mine more-or-less then there should be a hose running from the motor to the intake. I've been told that it's the breather for the head (or something like that) and some oil just comes through it and going into your intake. As far as i know it's not a problem. If anyone else comes on her and i'm wrong feel free to correct me.

Adam is actually correct. There is a hose connecting to the top of the head (valve cover actually) that is nothing more then a breather. Oil does make its way through there sometimes. Its not uncommon, and wont hurt u at all. If your worried about it, I have seen some people add a little breather filter there, and the intake dont get anymore oil in there. But I really would not worry about it. Its a common thing, and since you cleaned it off you will be fine. Worse thing I can even thing that would happen is it gunk up ur IAC solenoid, but other then that no real issues.

I figured it wasnt, just wasnt sure if I was sitting on a bigger problem. the oil was nowhere near the IAC. Thanks!

Yeah as long as its no-where to cause issues, then i wouldnt worry about it. Most of the time, the actual oil that comes through will stick to the sides of the intake manifold. Sometimes when the car starts to run like crap, its nice to pull the manifold off, and shoot some carb cleaner in there, and clean that puppy out. You would be surprised how much crap comes out lol.
