Hey all, this problem has been bothering me for a little while now and id really like some opinions on what it could be.My cars is a 2005 Cavalier, 5 speed, and I hear the noise when I am pulling away from a stop and maybe aren't so smooth with clutch engagement, and the car has a bit of a jerky take off or if I'm coasting along and give a shot of gas (say in 2nd gear). Seems like the knocking is happening in time with the jerking of the car. I've been wondering if it is a motor/trans mount but i'm not really sure how to check them easily, or what really constitutes a bad one. The car is lowered on Sportlines/D-Specs (1 yr old factory top mounts) and has 1 yr old poly control arm bushings. No aftermarket mounts otherwise. Any help is appreciated!
Well you check motor mounts but litereally grabbing the back of your motor, cold ofcourse, and pull foreward, if it moves alot then there bad. If a little then there ok. Now the clunking ur hearing is most likely your sway bar bushings. Which is very normal on these cars. Also I would check the struts mounts. Other then that, it could also be trans mounts. If there all cracked and dryrotted, I would say throw a set in there too. Goodluck!
Thanks for the suggestions, anyone else have any input on this? Or having a similar problem?
i have that problem as well but haven't had time to check it out i just turn the radio up for now lol
i use to hear that in my rear end before i got rid of mine.............i would check the struts and suspension but like everyone said get use to it........all anyone will ever say you own a cheap economy car pretty much =D
but i love the J's
Depending on the sound, it may be your thrust bearing internally. Hard shifting can increase foreplay in the crankshaft.
Just a thought.
=p
My ol z24 did the same before I sold it. I heard that from an oil changer.
Hard shifting can increase foreplay in the crankshaft. .
Thats possibly the most f***ing hilarious thing ive ever heard.
I hear it on mine when I let off the gas...fairly certain its a motor mount.
