My 02 Ecotec Sufire, for lack of a better term, seems to occasionally "hiccup" at high way speed, maybe once or twice during a 20 minute ride. It can be best described as feeling as if a gust of wind has hit the front of my car slowing me down for a split second. I really don't see any change in my RPMs or hear anything odd from the engine. It's an automatic, well maintained, shifts perfectly and has 97k on it. The only mod is a K&N filter. Any ideas?
Mine did something similar or at least I think it sounds silmilar. Only diff I could see the rpm gauge move a bit... Eventually I changed the plugs and wires and that seemed to take care of the "pulsing" for me....? I had a few other thugs that woud happen a the same time and it seemed to happen any time my rpms hit a particular range.
thanks. I just changed the plugs late last year. No wires on an Eco to change....
Sounds to me O2 sensor is getting old. May need replacing.Sounds the same thing that was happening to my cavalier a few weeks ago. I replaced the upstream O2 sensor car drivers flaw-less Now.
good Luck.
Missing i think would be the better term,Instead of hiccup.
Any chance its a gust of wind?
When mine was doing that a year ago I logged with hptuners and noticed my timing was all over the place also my map readings were way way off of what they should be. I replaced my map sensor and it fixed it. Good luck.
Changed out the O2 sensor, which was probably due, and the MAP sensor. Didn't really notice anything after the O2 sensor. After the MAP sensor, my idle when stopped at a light for instance, is much quieter.
Thanks for the tips.
Dan
At 97k a new 02 sensor might not be a bad idea. They have to get pretty bad before they actually throw a code.
Also if I remember correctly te ECU usually wont throw a code until it has the same problem 3 drive cycles in a row. So if it does it 2 days in a row, but not the 3rd, it resets the code counter.

Nope no codes when my replaced my O2 sensor.
Ecotecs are VERY known for having the ignition modules/coil pack go bad, and cause random missing that will not throw a code. If you have a friend with the same car, swap out the part that says Ecotec on your car with theirs. Then drive it. If it doesnt do it, then change that piece. Also, ecotecs dont have wires, but those boots do go bad and cause arching and could also cause a miss. Goodluck buddy!
