ECT and Thermostat

Having a problem with the radiator fan not coming on when engine temp gets high in my 05 Sunfire. Someone suggested my first step should be to replace the ECT and Thermostat and see if that fixes things. Called a shop about that and they quoted me a price of $600. That seems a bit steep.

The parts are fairly cheap, but for the life of me I'm not seeing where they go. Can someone post a pic of the engine with an arrow pointing to where they're located?

Simpler things to check would be that the fan works, and two that it's getting juice..... check the relays (along with the fuse). Consult an haynes or chiltons for the wiring schematic and buy an $10 multi-meter to use.

Fan is good. It comes on when the a/c turns on.

And although I don't know ecos, that looks just like the ECT I have on my 2.2, to the left of the thermostat in the picture, within the link Miss Jazer posted. The brass looking thing with the black plug. Apparently you can't see where they go because they're hidden on the back of the motor
