Hey Guys,
I just bought an 03 Cavalier, and for some reason the door chime doesn't sound when I leave the lights on. Also, the cigarette lighter socket near the steering wheel doesn't work when I plug my phone charger in it. A buddy of mine said he thinks they may be linked and to check the fuse. Do you guys know where the fuse is located for this? I only noticed a fuse box under the hood near the battery, but the layout didn't lead me to think those were the right fuses. Anyone know the answer to this? Thanks.
two things:
1. is there an aftermarket stereo in it? Removing the OEM radio will cause you to lose door chimes. There are units you can buy to keep the door chimes with an aftermarket deck, its pretty expensive for something lame like keeping the stock chimes
2. chances are the wires going to the cig lighter are fried, this was a defect that was seldom addressed... have the same problem in both my '01 and my '04. Someone correct me if Im wrong but it has something to do with the wires being insufficient for the amount of current going through them when using a cig lighter. Not a tough fix but plan on taking the dash apart.
If you dont already know how to take the dash apart, check this out:

PS: this should probably be in audio & electronics

Thanks Cavaclysmic.
The car does have an aftermarket stereo in it. That sucks that because of it I lose my door chimes, but oh well I guess. When you say there are units I can buy to keep the chimes, what exactly are you talking about? Decks? If that's the case I guess I'll just have to be real careful to remember to turn the lights off, right? :-)
Also, is the fuse panel under the hood near the battery the only one in these cars, or are there more?
Thanks.

Wire Harness
That is the part you need... pretty expensive for something like door chimes, but to each his own, i guess. As for the fuse box, open your drivers side door, look along the side where the front dash meets the door, you'll see a little door. open that up and theres the rest of your fuses.
There is another fuse panel on the side of your dash on the driver side, if you open your door you can see it.
As for the chime module, its a harness that keeps the factory chime. I know you can get it at Best Buy, and maybe Walmart, and costs roughly $40 iirc.
