I tried putting my oil temperature gauge in the block head itself and wrapping sealant tape around an open hole so it would keep the flow. to my suprise i go outside and find tons of oil spilled everywhere in the engine and on the ground. i probably lost half a quart of oil. anyways, i am done with these oil gauges and getting something simpler to install. i put the bolt back in the engine so no more leaks. do i need to top off my oil, or can i wait until it gets changed again?
Low on oil isn't the best way to go so far as I'm aware... I'd top it off until it's full according to the dipstick.
I would think if you have to ask whether or not to add oil after you dump a bunch on the ground, Then you probably should leave the rest of the engine alone IMO...
Annnnd why would you not top it off? Some have to add a quart every 1k miles.... Just top it off no reason not to..
I agree with Mike, if you don't realize you have to add oil... Don't work on your engine. Ever.
Do you fill your gas tank up when it's a good idea or just when you run out of gas too?
