Last night I felt the performance of my car acting up as I was driving on the highway. Few seconds after I see my check engine light come on and smell something burning. I pull over, pop the hood and see sparks. Turned the car off and saw that it was that the spark plug cable popped out of place. So I popped it back in and the car has been working ok since. The check enging light is still on though.
You guys thing it just needs to be resetted or can there still be something else going on with my car?
Yes, disconnecting the battery for a few minutes will reset the light but also wipe out any memory in your radio.
The light should go off after awhile if all is well. The system constantly monitors itself and updates its data base. It could take a few day or even a week or two depending.
Glad your fix was so simple!

Thanks guys! This worked. Didn't drive it around to see if it would come back, but I'll drive it around tomorrow.
Now...is it normal for the spark plug cable to just pop out of place??

No, not at all normal.
They could be old and the metal clip is weak and losing it's "grip".
They could have been bumped during some service work and become loose and then fell off.
They could possibly have never been properly installed by whomever replaced your spark plugs last.
When you put them one you should feel a "click" as the crab the top of the plug.

Been driving it around today with no problems.
I did get an oil change last month...it probably did get loose when they were replacing the air filter or something.
Thanks again.
The thing about disconnecting the battery you dont just lose radio stations, you lose all of what the computer learned, and all adaptive fuel trims are set back to zero,
