Ok so when i was having my turbo muffler put on my car, i started it up and it just started whining. The guy was like that could be your steering pump going bad. But it is constantly whining even when im sitting still. I dont know what it is. When i rev the motor the whining goes higher in pitch in order with the motor as the motor is reving up. Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
was it whinning since it was install?

if not, then it could be- the belt
It was whining when i bought the car from the previous owner.
I bought the car in the end of July of 2008
get some dish detergent, start the car and add a few drops of dish detergent on the inside of the belt and see if the whining stops. that's just to check if the whining sound goes away
if it goes away would that mean my belt is therefore bad. Someone also told me that it could be my a/c compressor?
So heres an update. Spoiler, I put some dish detergent on the inside of the belt. The whining still continues. I appreciate your help.
I wish I could hear the noise but maybe it could be the compressor, or it could be the power steering pump, or the water pump
Can you describe a bit more detailed the sound? Does it sound like a squeak of some sort or does it sound like the whinning has a bit of a sound of metal-to-metal contact?
its like a whirling werrrrrrrrrr. Sound. And when i give the motor reved up the sound goes up with the rpms. I'm going to replace the steering pump and hopefully thats what it is. What size is the shaft that the pulley fits over. Is it 3/4'' or is it 5/8''.
i had this problem on my 97 cav 2.2 a couple weeks ago. the whining sound almost sounds like a supercharger or something...lol.. but anyway i changed my belt and it went away. hopefully this info will help you.
Same on my LN2 2.2.
It's coming from the water pump or tension pulley I think. I'm guessing bearings somewhere are shot. I had a 92 that did it for 3 years, never broke down on me that car.
