Engine temp is normal.....but the overflow is boilin over???

Does anyone have any ideas on this one??

This is a freinds car, 2200, temp gauge seems accurate and stays within normal operating temps, but after driving for a short time, it will begin to spew out coolant from the overflow tank.

Runs fine, he has recently installed a ported head and cometic gasket with 1:6 roller rockers.

Any ideas?

and pardon my bad timing, but I am going on vacation next week, so I might not be responding as quickly.

air pocket is sounds like. jack that passanger side up and pull the cap off...i would suggest getting a new cap as well

cap is brand new, although an air pocket sounds possible, I didnt help him bleed the system, so I dont know how he did it.

yea air pockets are a bitch on the 2200 once they get in there. if you get the passangers side in the air though. take the cap off and let it run it should work itself out pretty easy

there is a bleeder valve screw thingy...always completely useless to me (and they break easy)

I am a very big believer in the bleeder screw, and the cap off running, but like I said, I dont know what he did to bleed it.

I never have any luck with that bleeder screw lol just make sure he doesn't drive it too much till he gets that fixed...last thing you need is a ruined head

Video

Thats what mine did a couple months ago.

USED BUT WORKING PARTS REPLACED,

Coolant Res.
Coolant Res. Cap
Water pump
Thermostat
And some coolant hoses.

NEW PARTS

HEAD GASKET(also put on used cylinder head for unrelated issues)

After all that, bled the coolant system, same problem, car would get up to temperature and it would blow the coolant out the overflow line.

Finally, bought a new rad cap from CTC, and it fixed it...

it is all water, my only dd and i had to drive it, dexcool isn't cheap....

I tried everything I could think of, nothing I did would stop it, picked up a new prestone replacement cap and the problem has completely gone away, except for a slow leak on that coolant pipe that runs in front of the head, to the corner of the head.

Good Luck, I know how frustrating it is, took me two weeks to finally get rid of it, and in the process cost me an extra $300...
