i have 2005 sunfire 2.2, i was driving last night and came to a stop light. when i took off the petal was very soft. it took no effort to push in. could it be caused by the weather? it was snowing last night. i can shift threw all the gears with no problems.

Check the reservoir level. If the clutch doesn't slip, and fully disengages when you push it in, I wouldn't worry.

call it a blessing in disguise. A very light clutch is much easier to operate in traffic than a heavy clutch. Try driving an old car with a cable drawn clutch in traffic!

could be low fluid like mention but if it keeps happening and seems to get softer and softer, check the line to make sure there is no air in it.

Is it slipping or is it not disengaging?

i had a similar problem... after remounting my clutch fluid after some engine work my clutch fluid actually unmounted and hung upsidedown giving me barely any fluid.... i remounted it and pumped and pumped until it was good as new =)
