I was wondering what i have to do to change the power steering fluid? like should i bleed the wholle system? and how would i get air bubbles out?
It takes 8,460 bolts to assemble an automobile, and one nut to scatter it all over the road
well you should really take it top a shop who has a pump that can do it for you, but if you empty your system, you will need to jack the front wheels off the ground, and turn the steering wheel from stop to stop over and over periodically checking/adding fluid to the resivoir (this is with the car off BTW).
Go about 20 times back and forth. Then put it down, start it up, check the fluid and take it for a test spin, making sure that you do lots of turning, including sharp turns. Get it back in, and re-check the fluid level.
Heres the back yard way, Just grab a turkey Or roast baister, It works just like a suction pump, Also jack the front end of youre car off the ground, So both wheels are off the ground. Dont allow all the fluid to be sucked out, Maybe 1/25 of the power steering fluid in the reservoir, Then turn the tires side to side with the engine running. Then add more power steering fluid into the reservoir. after 2-3 times of this sequence youre power steering should be flushed. May need 3-4 bottles of power steering fluid, To complete the full flush.
Good Luck.
Well my car was already jacked up and i pumped it out with one of those gas pumps that you hand pump out and i would say there is about 1/25 of the fluid left. so i will try it. whats the worst that could happen?
