Pulling 2.4- what way?
Monday, August 25, 2008 2:23 PM
OK guys, I am going to be pulling my motor so I would like a couple questions answered. First, what do you guys prefer out the top or out the bottom? I know if I pull just the motor out the top with out the trans its really hard, with the tranny shaft. So I would like to know your opinion on that. the next thing I would like to know, what needs to come off to get the motor and trans out. I know all the mounts, I am just wonding like the header(rk sport), intake manny, etc. Thanks for all the help, should be fun to see what it looks like after 4000 miles of ticking from a lifter that has collapsed.

if your pulling just the engine your going to need to take off the crank pulley.

if your pulling the engine and tranny 5-spd, take off the master cylinder and pull them both. auto, drop from underneath, subframe and all.

Drop it out the bottom and remove the sub frame. Its by far the easiest and you can leave the header on. Just watchout for the brake line that runs along the subframe!!

How would I do that. Should I have the car up on jack stands, then put the engine on the engine lift. once I get everything off how can I put the car higher in the air so that I can get the motor out?

i have swapped three motors and i have never dropped my subframe and the one time i tried things went bad. if you jack your car up and use an engine hoist with a leveler bar you can drop your motor out the botom you just have to have the motoralmost on its side.

I have always went from the top ( we do not have a lift). 2 bolts will unbolt the brake master and you can move it out of the way (without removing the brake lines), take the header off. If you are keeping A/C unbolt it and tie it up so you do not mess up the lines. Taking the mounting bracket for the lower mount off will free up a little room. If you do not have a cherry picker with a adjustable leveler on it then take off the crank pulley.
