I HAVE A 97 CAVALIER 2.2 Lt. WITH A DEAD ENGINE,BUT NEAR MINT BODY. I NEED TO KNOW WHICH ENGINE SWAPS I CAN MAKE WITHOUT TO MUCH DIFFICULTY. I KNOW A 96 OR 97 2.2Lt WILL WORK WITHOUT ANY MODIFICATIONS.
I AM A COLLISION TECHNICIAN WITH OVER 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE ,AND I UNDERSTAND CARS VERY WELL. .
CAN I USE A 95 2.2Lt AND JUST CHANGE THE VACUUM EGR TO ELECTRIC? CAN I USE 98 2.2Lt AND UP, EVEN THOUGH THEY USE OBD2 ?
ThanQ Collision Mike
Well, '96-up is OBD2. I will tell you I tried to switch a '96 & '97 2.2L & we couldn't get it to keep running and it would run really hot! Something to do with the cam sensor I think. Anyway, we had to get a '96 motor to go back in.
You sound like you have way more exp. than me, but it depends on how many headaches you want. I'd just get another one same year if I could. Best bet is one in the JY with a rear end collision. Good luck.
i def agree. also my car is a 96 and in order to tune it i have to put a 97 or 98 pcm in there so there is prob major pcm differences. stick with a 97 or 98
