I don't know how the CKP is on the Ecotec, but the plastic on my LD9 broke when I tried to take it out because it was stuck. I soaked it with WD-40 and let it sit for five minutes. Then I was able to pull it out with some needle nose pliers.

Well since you have the OHV (no 02 cavi's ever came with a "SOHC" motor as your profile states) At least thats what I assume you have as thats the only single cam motor that came in our cars.

Basically a little PB blaster might do you good, but its only held in with an o ring and crud once you get the bolt out so more then likely just give a tug on it with some needle nose like hurkaleeze said.

I'd like to know how you broke it pulling it out.

You should always ROTATE a part while its in the hole to loosen it and gently pull it out, I'm assuming you prolly pried on it and cracked the entire back of it off.

that would probably be a lot easier then pulling the motor but i dont really wanna run the risk of putting any knicks in the crank or anything like that but i might just run that one by my brother and see what he thinks about it

as long as you pry carefully you'll be prying against the reluctor ring...definatly a non issue. Nowhere near a journal or anything that could be damaged...its just a rough cast finish.

well i have one more question guys. will i have to take out the crank in order to get to the ckp sensor? remember i have the 2.2 OHV motor and from what i have seen from on the outside of the block the sensor is located above the crank and therefore i would have to pull the crank. but i dont know for sure so i figured i would ask before i started tearin stuff apart and then finding out that i do have to take out the crank.

Well if you are talking about the CKP then no you dont have to take out the crank to get to it from inside...

IF you are talking the CMP then there is no way to get at it from inside. The cam needs to come out at the very least...it would be difficult with the motor on the stand let alone in the car.

Is it a 2 pin or 3 pin connector?

if its 2 pin it is the CKP and you should have no problem, pan just comes off its right there.... If its 3 pin that is your CMP and you better figure out a better way to get it out....you wont be pulling it out from the inside anytime soon.

In the second case....pull the intake and try and get it out somehow...put some grunt into it and pull the thing out.

well i already know the ckp sensor. i have the chiltons manual for the car and the reason that the ckp is being changed is because its the last thing left ignition wise to be replaced. so as long as i know i can get at it without taking the crank out im good. my brother was trying to tell me that i had to take it out and i was kinda arguin with him about it but now that thats settled im gonna throw it in his face. lol
