2.4litre oil leak

Just need guesses. My daughter and wife are driving to Houston from Calgary. This morning they are in Oklahoma City and noticed a pool of oil under the car. It hasn't leaked a drop of oil since I completely rebuilt it last year. It now has probably 8000 miles on it.
Car is 1998 Sunfire GT 2.4 litre motor and 5 speed manual. I had them take it in to a local GM dealer who looked at it and said "you have an oil leak!" They couldn't or wouldn't tell them any more. From my daughter's description, I think it is on the passenger side of the car.
I made an appointment for her to take it in to a dealer in Conroe tomorrow. Meanwhile, I told them to stop and check oil every 50 miles.
Any ideas? It has got to be something that is failing.
Only thing I can think of is oil filter loosened but I tightened it pretty good when I did oil change last week. I have never seen one loosen. Another thing might be the crankcase ventilation it has a rather large hose, if the hose came off or if it split I would imagine a fair amount of oil would leak. I searched this topic and notice the oil sender possibly failing I never replaced it when I rebuilt it.

Bruce,
You didn't mention what side or where the oil was leaking from. It could be the timing chain cover. If you could get some more info as to where it is leaking this would help.

Just a thought when you changed the oil. Did you make sure the seal on the old filter came off with the old one? I don't think the hose on the oil ventaltion would cause alot of oil to come out. Acctually it is just to vent case pressures and shouldn't have any oil coming out of it. If it had more miles on it though it might seep a lil bit out the hose.

O if you cranked the filter on with a wrench to you could have put a hole in the filter depending on the type of wrench. Since your suppose to hand tighten it. But i figure you knew that so just throwing it out there.

Well, here is the answer: There was no oil leak! My daughter took it in today, they fixed the AC, washed the engine down and couldn't find any leak. They charged $207 which I thought was pretty good considering I thought the AC compressor was leaking. The only thing I can think of is my daughter maybe didn't screw the oil filler cap on properly and oil sprayed out all over. I'm still going to tell her to watch closely in case it really is leaking and they just couldn't find it.
Thanks for the suggestions.

That's good to know also maybe there was a puddle of oil there to begin with and she pulled over top of it. It could be possible.
