I drive a 97 2.2 OHV 5speed stick....
Goin to work one day, and the car would not start, I hear the gas pump turning on, but no ignition.
I changed the starter, put in a new battery, checked all fuses (including inside the engine bay), wiring, and nothing. You know when you first turn on the car you get flashing lights...engine, oil, electricity, I get the engine light first then the battery and oil, then all three remain on. There is plenty of oil, I have a new battery, new starter, all fuses are good. Could it be a bad sensor, like a crank shaft or cam shaft that is dead??? Could the engine light which come on first have a code telling me a sensor is bad??? If so can the car start even when a crank shaft or cam shaft sensor is bad or completely dead??? The night before, my car reved up a little when I started it, then the rpms when back down. I remember this happpened to me when the crank shaft sensor went bad, it reved different rpms. Lastly, could the clutch pedal not be makiing contact with electrical lines which star the car, or is the ignition (key input) shot??? Please any suggestion are very welcomed.
Does your starter crank? If it doesn't, it might be a clutch safety switch or wiring to it. I had that situation for myself when car sometimes started and sometimes not, then I disconnected the switch and connected wires together. Starts without presing clutch peadal now.
Well checked the OBD readings and nothing all passed. "Aivars E," I had the same problem where the car would not start a while back, then it would magically start up like nothing. But that was a couple of months ago, and now it wont start at all, even with the clutch fully pressed down. You could be right, it might be the clutch switch thing, where would I find it??? and why does it go bad???
Yeah the starter is not cranking (even when new)???
Look under your panel where clutch pedal is. There should be some wires and if you have a cruise control you will see the c/c switch the same as to the brake pedal, don't touch it. Look for other two wires and connect them together.
Checked the clutch safety switch and ignition and nothing. I did find the problem though...a corroded starter fuse which branches of the starter caused when you have an open hood scoop like the invader type : (. Thanx Aivars for your helpful suggestions.
