'96 Cavy - A/C low pressure switch location?
Wednesday, July 30, 2008 7:18 AM
I fixed a leak on my A/C (o-rings) & replaced the orifice tube. I sucked down the system, but I can't get the compressor to kick on.

I found a 3-prong (hi pressure side) switch & tried to bypass it with a short piece of wire. This caused the engine to stop running & now I have a check engine light on. Anyway, the car still fires up. I checked the fuses & everything seems OK there. I'll have to clear that code later.

I've called a couple of A/C shops & they tell me the low pressure switch should be near the accumulator/drier (the big silver looking thing near the firewall). I traced this line all the way to the compressor & there is no switch in it.

So, where is this switch? If there isn't one, how do I get the compressor to kick on to pull refrigerant into the system?

Thanks.

I recharged my a/c system a couple of weeks ago.The compressor wasnt coming on before i charged it.What i did was start the car, connect the lines to recharge the a/c and put the a/c on max.The compressor kicked on in a few seconds when the lines were pressurized.I think my o-rings might be shot too because its blowing warm air again.
