'99 Cav, Bad motor mounts=shift linkage popped out.

A year ago, I got told by Tire Kingdom that my motor mounts are pretty messed up. That's why I always hear a loud clanking noise when I shift gears on my '99 Cavalier (which is an automatic BTW). Now, recently when I had my car in park, I turned it on and tried to shift it out of the park gear and nothing. The shifting stick would move back and forth and felt loose in my hand, but it wouldn't get out of gear. The shift linkage had popped out of place. So I have the car towed and they put it back and and bolt it into place. I'm a typical chick who knows nothing about cars and asked if this could be a result of the bad motor mounts, because of all the vibrations and such, and they said it could very well possibly be. They're giving me an estimate of about $500 to replace the motor mounts.
Have any of you encountered problems like this? Would you recommend having it replaced? I def. don't want things going on me or putting me in dangerous situations because of a bad piece in my car.

Thanks in advanced!

wow 500 is crazy high. you can get upper and lower mounts from karo at carcustoms.net for under 100 bucks and im sure you can find someone in your area willing to help you out for free.

as far as it popping the linkage off i guess it could. i know when i installed my short shifter in my cav, my shift linkage was attached pretty good. it just snaps on but its held on tight. if you wanna tell if your mounts are bad, put your car in park and pop your hood. push your car back and forth, youll be able to see the motor shift back and forth a noticible distance if they are broke.

WOW if its $500 they must be taking u for a wash. I gree Moar Candy! LAWL says u will be abel to notice able movement in the engone area. Also 2200 motors shake like crazy back and forth. Just Gm made a poor design on those engine mounts. Even to replace all the motor mounts should cause u no more then $120, Plus labour 2 hours shop will morely charge you.

Good Luck,
